February 2006
Well, been there - Done that. I had a call Saturday evening (25 Feb 06) from my geothermal HVAC installer, we discussed the need to have one of their staff out here to check my system.
Meanwhile my system is burning up the kWh in auxiliary heat (electric resistance). My patience is running thin. It’s only been two months.

Well, I woke up this morning and noticed the heat coming from the supply vents was a little on the warm side. I checked the thermostat. Yep, I was in auxiliary heat mode, electric resistance heat.
The outside temperature in this area was in the middle twenties. Way too warm to be in resistance heat.
So far this winter this system has operated mainly as electric space heating. I will send my installer an email and telephone call. We’ll see if it takes another three months to get him out here.

Here it is 6 months after the last problem with the system. As you can see by the charts July and August 2005 at http://www.duanesworld.net, were high energy usage months in the cooling cycle due to the system problems. A service call was required to resolve the issue.
Luckily, there was no charge for that service call.
Well, the system is experiencing problems once again. A repeated call to the installer is finally getting them to come back out.
As you can see by the charts, January and February 2006 energy usage was extremely high. You can see the relation of high energy usage by viewing the “Total Degree Days” chart for January and February (warm months).
The system went into auxiliary (resistance electric backup) heat quite often. A call in December of ‘05 and then calls again in January of ‘06 resulted in “over the phone” diagnosis and no service call. A call to the installer in the middle of February is resulting in a service call which is supposed to take place in late February, near March! Meanwhile, my electric consumption is skyrocketing. Now we are receiving some cold weather and the system is not functioning properly. Rather disappointing.
The Geothermal HVAC system was installed during the summer of 2004. It was operational in October of 2004.
Check out the page http://www.duanesworld.net for information on the installation.
Welcome to the Geothermal HVAC Notebook. This page has been created to keep a continued log of the status of my geothermal system.
The Notebook includes problems and resolutions, Projects and Ideas. It seems that the main web site page would fill up quickly with issues and I would like to provide a forum for others to share geothermal hvac questions and concerns and comments.
